Lee Pearce is the founder partner of Apex
Chimney Services. He started sweeping chimneys back
in 1983 and has been a member of the National Association of
Chimney Sweeps (NACS) since 1991. Since then Lee has been
heavily involved in the chimney industry and is a respected
expert in this field. Originally representing the NACS,
as their Safety Officer, he worked on a project with the Health
& Safety Executive to construct a Guide to Health & Safety
for chimney sweeps which is still in use today. Currently,
Lee is the Technical Director of the NACS and has represented
them on several Technical Committees including the British
Standards Committee, a Chimney Experts Panel on behalf
of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and at a Congress for
the European Federation of Master Chimney Sweeps.
His latest contribution on behalf of the NACS
and Chimney Industry in general was to oversee, compile
and publish the first ever National Chimney Survey of Faulty
Flues & Terminals. The survey covered some 7560 chimneys
that were visited by NACS members over an 18 week period and
found 699 faulty chimney installations. This survey is
currently being used by Government Departments and several other
high profile institutions to help highlight problems encountered
within the field.
Lee was one of the first chimney sweeps in the UK
to be awarded the City & Guilds / NVQ in Chimney Engineering
and he is now an instructor at the Chimney Training Centre
at Stone in Staffordshire helping to educate other chimney
sweeps.
